The place is not fancy; all of the style comes in the grub. A few doors down from the State Theater, this dog shop is a convenient place to feed your appetite.

Enter the 1950s: Red stools lining an L-shaped bar lining the walls and milkshakes, sundaes and sodas painted on the wall. It’s a small joint made to accommodate an on-the-go lunch crowd. Most take their meal to go, but fairly recent magazines and newspapers are available for those who dine in.

Dogs With Style was recognized by the Kalamazoo Gazette for their to-die-for fries. Served, hot, with the right balance of crisp and softness, I have never had a batch that I didn’t like. Plus, they serve you a healthy, filling amount.

The hot dogs are delish as well! Whether you like yours plain, with strips of mustard and ketchup, or the works with peppers, relish or onions, Dogs With Style can cater to your needs. And the dogs are yummy.

I personally enjoy the unhealthy, but yummy, Walking Taco. Frito’s topped with ground beef, sour cream, tomatoes and shredded cheese makes a great mini meal on the go for less than two bucks.

When dining at Dogs With Style, be sure to bring cash because they do not take our little plastic money. Plus, they make your food to order, so you may have to wait a few minutes. Also know that this is a dog and fries place, so their specialty is not in burgers and shakes. Come ready to order something in the dog family, or indulge in the soup of the day or house salad. They also offer ice cream bars, a variety of soft drinks and chips.
