Yes, another city with an active river walk. Grand Rapids is a booming city in West Michigan with plenty to offer day trippers. Enjoy fishing, boating, shopping, dinning, site seeing, hiking and more.  Although the Downtown Dates series (click on the right for more) shows Kalamazoo has plenty to offer, Grand Rapids definitely has us beat on shopping and dinning.

Shop it! Downtown has a bunch of little shops for you to enjoy, and strip malls are scattered throughout the city. For an amazing shopping experience, visit RiverTown Crossings Mall. Fully equipped with popular shops, vendors and a movie theater, this mall could easily become the solo day trip destination. Visit http://www.rivertowncrossings.com.

Walk it! Walk one of the many hiking trails. Pure Michigan is truly pushing people to appreciate Michigan’s beautiful landscape. Those not impressed by the winter weather, may be wooed by the cool springs of Michigan and enjoy Grand Rapids hiking. Visit michigan.org for a map of area trails.

Ride it! Take a wild ride atop the sand dunes. This sounds fun and exhilarating. The Saugatuck Dune Rides (right outside of GR) cost $17 for adults and $10 for kids 11 and younger. Visit http://www.saugatuckduneride.com/home.html for more information.

Cost: If you pack a lunch, it could be free. But to have a night out on the
      town, it's best to take a minimum of $20 per person.
