The tornadoes that swept through Clinton Township last week continue to threaten the area. In fact, according to the DailyTribune.com, cleanup efforts could take up to 10 weeks to complete. An article filed by Reporter Mitch Hotts earlier this week mentioned that the township has declared a state of emergency.
The tornadoes hit Macomb County on Aug. 19 tearing through trees and damaging homes an property. By declaring a state of emergency, the article noted, the cleanup could occur much more swiftly – cutting down that 10 week period to something closer to three weeks.
The article added the following:
According to the National Weather Service, two tornadoes embedded in a severe thunderstorm shattered windows, flattened privacy fences, and tore roofs from buildings this past Thursday. One of the tornadoes, packing 85 mph winds, touched down near 16 Mile and Groesbeck in the heart of Clinton Township and also caused damage for miles in either direction before lifting off around 14 Mile and Harper. It was estimated to be three miles long and 200 yards wide. While there were reports of air conditioners being ripped from walls of homes and outdoor furniture tossed about, the most damage came from split or falling trees, or broken branches falling onto homes or power lines, said Paul Brouwer, township emergency management coordinator. He said damage was reported from many areas including Clinton River Road, Tanglewood, Moravian and the mile roads.
