Chances are if your own life hasn’t been impacted by cancer, you know someone who has. Now is the time to help make a difference.

Livonia’s St. Mary Mercy Hospital is organizing a 5K run and walk through the residential streets of the city for the fourth year to raise awareness about the pervasive disease. It’s a great way to participate in the community and lend a helping hand.

You can also help St. Mary Mercy work toward surpassing last year’s $18,000 goal, which supports mammograms, funds cancer support groups and provides access to cancer screenings and gives care to those in need. No one should be denied the care when the diagnosis is cancer.

Embrace Life, a 5K Walk and Run specifically meant to raise awareness for cancer survivors and those battling the disease will be held 9 a.m. Sept. 12.

According to a preview story in the Livonia Observer, awards will be handed out to first, second and third-place male and female winners in each age division of the 5K run.

It costs $22 to participate if you sign up before Sept. 3, and $27 after Sept. 3 through race day. For more information, visit here.
